Virtual Ask the Expert: Rehabilitation Interventions in Parkinson’s Disease

Rehabilitation is considered an adjuvant to pharmacological and surgical treatments for Parkinson’s disease (PD) to maximize functional ability and minimize secondary complications. Rehab professionals will discuss effective, evidence-based treatments for people in all stages of Parkinson’s disease (PD) with application to other neurological conditions and across a range of disease severity and communication impairments. The rehabilitative program at Inova Alexandria Hospital is “goal-based” (targeted to practicing and learning specific activities in the core areas), with practice variables (intensity, specificity, complexity) identified to tailor the program to the individual patients’ characteristics.
