No one diet has been proven to help patients with PD. However, a version that combines the Mediterranean diet with the DASH diet has been shown helpful in other degenerative conditions similar to PD.
MIND Diet
A good reference on the MIND diet can be found at www.healthline.com/nutrition/mind-diet.
Briefly, the MIND diet recommends daily consumption of the following foods: green leafy vegetables, other non-starchy vegetables, berries, nuts, olive oil, whole grains, fish, beans, poultry and wine. Foods to be avoided include butter and margarine, cheese, red meat, fried food, pastries and sweets. The fiber in the MIND diet may also be helpful for constipation, which is common in PD. We most commonly recommend a well-balanced diet with regular fruit and vegetable intake.
