April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month

IPMDC 10th anniversary in 2025
Parkinson's Awareness Month

Every year in April, organizations around the world join together to increase awareness and understanding about Parkinson’s.

In March, Inova Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Center (IPMDC) held two in-person conferences:
• The first to educate health care professionals in senior living so they could understand the basics to providing a higher level of care.
• The second brought together patients, families and friends to hear the latest in Parkinson’s care, and connect with IPMDC program and community partners.

Did you know that 2025 marks IPMDC’s 10th anniversary?
Until there’s a cure, IPMDC will continue to provide you with up to date information through our programs. We invite you to explore ipmdc.org where you’ll find online libraries on topics for recently diagnosed, care partners, the Parkinson Journey, and exercise, including Zumba Gold for Parkinson’s. Also healthy eating, thinking and behavior, organizing, and more. Throughout April, we will continue to highlight our programs and resources.

To help support our programs so we can continue to offer them at no cost to attendees, please visit ipmdc.org/donate.

Thank you for helping to transform the lives of people living with Parkinson’s!

Inclement Weather Guidelines

With the snow forecast for early January, it’s time to dust off our inclement weather guidelines.

For IPMDC Programs

We will follow Fairfax County School guidelines. If schools are closed and classes are cancelled, IPMDC programs are cancelled too.
If you’re not sure what to do, please stay home and stay safe.

Remember IPMDC Online Programs on Snow Days
When you’re unable to attend your favorite in-person programs because you’re stuck inside due to inclement weather, or feeling unsafe on the roads, just click here to check out our calendar and join us online.

For Doctor Appointments

If you have an appointment scheduled for a day when inclement weather is forecast, our office will contact you to change your in-person appointment to a telehealth appointment. This will help everyone to stay safe.

We encourage you to still see your doctor by telehealth rather than rescheduling because it may be awhile until you can get another appointment. If you’re hesitant because you’re not that comfortable with the idea of an online appointment, our office team can help you to navigate the process.

If you have any questions about a clinic visit or want to reschedule, please reach out to our team through MyChart message rather than calling. We can help accommodate easier than the centralized call center.
